MMS Family:

Happy Summer. Once again we close another year. It has been a year of wonderful accomplishments, new friends,  new projects and successful ventures. A year with a very successful River Series, a glorious boardwalk, an exciting auction, a fun filled Regatta and the beginnings of our beautiful monarch station. Heartfelt thanks go out to Zac Ives, Naomi & Larry (et all), Chris & Stephanie Cosby, Krissi & Jeremy Williams and the fabulous staff & families of MMS. Gratitude and love abound at our beautiful school. One has to only look around and see the beautiful marks made with love and care by the talented and dedicated folks in our community.

As in life, there is one thing you can always count on and that is change. Change can make us uncomfortable but it can also give “permission” for other’s to choose their own course and we can send them off with love and encouragement. It is with tremendous gratitude and love that we announce the new beginnings for two very beloved members of our community:
IMG_0359Fletcher Golden, aka Mr. Fletcher, Mr. Green Jeans, Mr. do what needs to be done, has decided to retire from MMS.

While Fletcher is or has been an “Enigma” to some parents and/or grandparents, he has always been a “Stalwart” for this school and the kids we teach. He truly is Golden!

He has been a “Rock” for this school, myself, and the kids who have passed through over the years. He has been a confidant, repair man, gardener, landscaper, teacher and most importantly a friend to me, our staff, our kids, and their parents. He is and will always be “Family” and we are sorry to see him retire. We all will miss him and will always love him.

Attached is a hand written letter from Mr. Fletcher Golden announcing his retirement.

Rachael Grant and her family have been a part of the MMS community for 12 years. She has lent her extraordinary talents to the school in many ways, through art pieces used for the Auction and as graduation gifts to the school, by teaching our children to see with an artists eye and giving them the ability to grow their talents.

Rachael has been offered and has accepted a position with another lucky school and will no longer be able to teach art at MMS. Her joyful spirit and amazing talent will be greatly missed but we wish her all the best in this new opportunity and look forward to seeing her blossom in this new endeavor.

Hello, friends!I wanted to take a minute to let you all know that I’ll be making a career change in the fall. I’ve been offered an opportunity to run an art program at a progressive charter school in south Memphis and I’m so excited about the work I’ll be able to do there.I feel so fortunate to have been teaching art at MMS for 12 years now! I am so grateful to Maria for giving me the freedom to truly follow the children and I’m forever grateful to the children for inspiring me, helping me become a better artist, and teaching me how to teach art. While I’m heavy-hearted about leaving MMS, I’m happy to get a chance to take all the gifts I have gained here and share them with a new community. With love and gratitude,Rachael”
