Historical Halloween is a favorite tradition of MMS students, parents and staff alike, and this year marks 35 years of this event! Students select a historical figure to research and dress as. Then, around Oct. 31, families and friends are invited to watch as students line up in order of the famous figures’ birthdays and give a brief presentation on their lives. It is truly a joy to watch! Here are a few highlights from this year’s event.

For Toddler and Primary Environment age, it was most students’ first experience speaking in front of an audience. Developing public speaking skills at a young age is a successful tool as children learn and grow. Our students spoke into the microphone and introduced themselves as their historical figure. Some of the people chosen were Queen Elizabeth I, George Washington, the Montgolfier brothers, Albert Einstein, Enzo Ferrari, Mother Teresa, Marie Curie and Princess Diana.

Students from the Elementary Environment shared a bit more background information on their historical figures of choice, like when they were born and what year they died. The famous people from history chosen by our Elementary students included Cleopatra, Christopher Columbus, Yasuke, Galileo, Dorothy Good, Elizabeth Blackwell, Susan B. Anthony, Thomas Edison, Jacques Cousteau, Mr. Rogers, Neil Armstrong, Michael Jackson, Serena Williams, Malala Yousafzai and Alexandra Trusova.

Our Middle School students selected famous scientists and gave a longer presentation of their inventions and background. The audience learned about the personal and professional lives of the historical figures chosen by the students including Charles Babbage, Charles Darwin, Emma Wedgewood, Maria Mitchell and Ivan Pavlov.

We had a wonderful time learning about the lives of these historical figures. Our students did a great job, and we are so proud of them and their presentations!
