Due to potentially bad weather the Regatta has been moved to May 13th, 2017.
With each new year, enthusiasm grows for our Regatta and Duck Race. For 14 years, we’ve seen families from all over the Mid-South gather for a Saturday of outdoor fun and family competition.
Each spring, we welcome the community to participate in our Regatta to proudly show the unique outdoor environment we have at Maria Montessori School. Our Regatta is centered around community and families, with a kid’s fun run, children’s games, take-and-make art, kayak rides around the pond, yummy treats and so much more. This year, we are excited to introduce a new activity to the Regatta – a Boat Builders Race! Similar to the Wacky Boat Contest, teams will build a life-sized boat out of cardboard, duct tape and approved water-proofing materials before coming to the Regatta. On the day of the event, teams will put their boats to the test and race in the Wolf River Harbor. This is a great team-building exercise for groups and families of all ages and sizes, so we encourage everyone to spread the word and register a boat!
The Duck Race and the Wacky Boat Contest are the most highly anticipated events of the afternoon. In the Duck Race, families can sponsor a rubber duck for $5. Once the sponsorship period ends, the ducks are released into the pond for a “race,” with one numbered duck being named the winner. The lucky duck who sponsors the winning rubber duck is awarded $100.
Our Wacky Boat Contest is unlike anything you’ve ever done before! Teams work together to build a boat using only cardboard and duct tape! Teams have one hour to complete their boat before one member of the team climbs aboard and races it on the pond. The boat that withstands the water best and makes it to the finish line wins!
We will finish out the afternoon with the local music provide by The Rusty Pieces
We welcome all individuals, families, local businesses and organizations to come out and enjoy a Saturday at the Harbor for the 14th Annual Regatta and Duck Race. See you then!
