Watching children share their newfound understanding of the world is exciting. This is why Maria Montessori School holds our Lesson Open House. This night is an opportunity for our students to develop a lesson plan to educate their parents on a topic they’ve learned in class.
In years past, students have explained to parents button sewing, fundamental needs, snake game and scrapbooking. Though these lessons may seem “elementary,” our parents often walk away with a renewed understanding of topics they learned in primary school more than 30 years ago!
The Lesson Open House allows our parents to become intimately involved with the educational style of the Montessori Method. While many are familiar with the differences between traditional primary schooling and Montessori schooling, they may not realize what these differences look like in practice. There is no better way to explain the difference than for our parents to learn the same way their children do every day.
Additionally, students are able to reinforce lessons learned in school by teaching others. It has been proven that subject mastery can best be demonstrated through the ability to accurately teach others. Our Lesson Open House allows students to hone presentation skills and demonstrate their understanding of classroom lessons.
This year, our Lesson Open House will take place Wednesday, March 29 from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and we highly recommend parents, guardians and loved ones of MMS students join us for a night of learning and laughter. We can’t wait to see what our students have planned, and we are excited to see you there!
