The River Series continues this spring at our very own Maria Montessori School Amphitheater. Enjoy live performances while admiring the Wolf River and Harbor Town – and benefitting MMS! Doors open at 4 p.m. and music begins at 5 p.m. for every show. This season, we have a unique lineup with acts the whole family will love.

Saturday, April 22 – Compulsive Gamblers with Fake

T.M. Prudhomme’s Fake will open the first show with their indie sound. Born out of a 2021 Crosstown Arts residency, Fake plays all around Memphis and even performed at last year’s River Series.

Compulsive Gamblers’ unique style mixes ‘50s pop, Memphis-style rhythm and blues and punk rock. In the 1990s, Compulsive Gamblers were at the forefront of the Memphis roots/punk scene. Since then, they have played many shows and released several albums. Compulsive Gamblers also had the honor of backing up R&B legend Andre Williams on several cuts on his album “The Black Godfather.”

Saturday, May 13 – Mark Edgar Stuart with Aaron James

Aaron James will open the show with his indie/folk music that focuses on self discovery. He is a member of the Memphis-based UNAPOLOGETIC. collective and released his debut album in November 2022.

Mark Edgar Stuart started out playing bass as a sideman on dozens of critically acclaimed records, including an appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” The loss of his father inspired Mark to pick up a guitar and write his own music. His debut album was awarded “Record Of The Year” from the Memphis Flyer. Mark has since opened for all his heroes including Leon Russell, Tony Joe White, Levon Helm and Billy Joe Shaver.

Saturday, May 20 – Spider Bags with Limes Tribute

Limes Tribute’s origin is heartwarming – Limes was the long running musical project of Memphis musician and truck driver Shawn Cripps. After Cripps passed away in a highway accident in 2021, his longtime collaborator and friend Chris Owens formed Limes Tribute. Owens is joined by Limes bandmates Jack Yarber, Nick Ray and others to be announced.

Spider Bags is an alternative rock group that was formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in 2006. The group has released several albums, and their latest music leverages a vintage recording/mixing device, the Tascam 388.

Saturday, June 3 – Aquarian Blood with Turnstyles

The Turnstyles – Seth Moody and Graham Winchester – perform around Memphis most nights of the week. Their music can be found somewhere in the middle of the White Stripes, Flat Duo, the Oblivians and Mrs. Jeffrey Evans. They’re known for their entertaining live performances, so don’t miss out!

Aquarian Blood is a husband-wife team whose music blends folk, punk and country. The band reemerged in early 2018 with more intimate, mostly acoustic ballads. They’ve recorded multiple albums at their Midtown Memphis home, where River Series founder Zac Ives helped select 17 songs for their new album “Bending the Golden Hour.”

Tickets are only $10 for adults and $5 for kids with funds benefiting MMS. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance on Eventbrite. We hope to see you there!
