At Maria Montessori School, we know how important it is for children to grow into productive members of society. This is why we emphasize the importance of community in our environments. Beyond this, the community built between MMS parents and staff only further supports each child. A tight-knit, supportive community like the one we have benefits all!

For students

Dr. Maria Montessori said, “There is a great sense of community within the Montessori classroom, where children of differing ages work together in an atmosphere of collaboration rather than competitiveness.” In our environments, students experience learning with children younger and older than them. A lot can be learned from the observation of other students’ behaviors! Our students enjoy teaching each other new things and demonstrating what they have learned. The camaraderie between our students truly makes for a successful learning environment.

For parents

Students enjoy seeing their parents or guardians interact with their school. Parents become a part of our culture through participation and volunteering at different events, like our International Food Tasting and Silent Auction or the River Series. Other events like Pizza & Pedagogy are put on specifically for parents to learn and engage with the school. Pizza & Pedagogy is an open forum for parents to discuss anything and everything Montessori-related. We hold this event so parents can fully immerse themselves in the Montessori Method, even if they did not grow up attending a Montessori school.

At MMS

We invite parents to observe our environments (when appropriate) to see our guides and students in their daily routines! When the student, parent and guide all put effort into establishing a community, it is truly special. We see students, staff and parents all working together to become better citizens and in turn, go out and improve the world. The community at MMS is strengthened each year, and we love to see everyone interact with each other to better the school and world as a whole.
